Creating aliases for frequently used objects

Quick and easy access to frequently used objects is possible by creating an alias. An alias acts as a shortcut to the original object and is not a copy of the object. An alias points to the original object it represents. Creating an object alias also enables you to place objects in multiple folders without needing to update each one when a change is made.

When you open an alias, you are actually opening the original object, which is stored somewhere else in Objective ECM.

For example, an employee of a finance department accesses a company’s financial documents on a daily basis. Instead of navigating the company’s file plan to access the documents they need each time, it’s time-saving for him to create an alias in his Handy folder. He could also create aliases for each department’s financial documents and locate them in a central folder called Financial documents.

You can easily recognise an alias as it is displayed with an on the object icon. For example, an alias of a folder is displayed as Icon of an alias to a folder. and an alias of a document is Icon for an alias to a document..
