Emailing an object reference

Every object in Objective ECM is assigned a unique identifier when it’s created. This enables you to share an object with others by emailing them its unique Objective ECM reference. Before emailing an object reference, ensure your mailbox is configured correctly.

Note:   You cannot email an object reference to others using your mobile phone.

Important:  Only users with the appropriate privileges can view the referenced content.
For users who do not have access to Objective ECM, copies of documents can be sent as attachments using Objective Navigator.

  1. Go to the folder containing the object(s) you wish to reference in an email.
  2. Tick the checkbox next to each object in the Content pane that you wish to be referenced in the email.

  3. Select Email reference on the toolbar.

    A new email displays with:

    • the Subject line of ‘Reference to object’.
    • the email body displaying the object’s name and a hyperlink to access it.

    Note:  If you have selected multiple objects with long names and this exceeds your web browser's mailto: link limit (usually 2000 characters), you will be prompted to retry with fewer objects. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop objects into an email.

  4. Complete and send the email.

    Tip:   When you drag-and-drop an object from Objective ECM to an email application that supports HTML formatted content, a link to the object is displayed as hyperlinked text.
