Accessing objects

Your access to objects depends on the privileges you have been granted. User privileges are generally inherited or assigned by your Objective administrator.

Privilege	Icon	Details
See		Allows you to view the name of an object. Note: You cannot view the contents of a folder unless you have ‘See’ privileges assigned for that folder.
Open		Allows you to view the contents of an object in read-only mode.
Create		Allows you to add documents and create folders. When you add a document, you become the owner of that object, and are automatically assigned all privileges to it (if owner privileges are enabled). Used in tandem with the 'Delete' privilege, this privilege also allows you to move an object into a folder.
Edit		Allows you to make changes to a document version thereby creating a new version of the original document. You can also make changes to an object’s properties.
Delete		Allows you to delete an object. When used with the 'Create' privilege, this privilege also allows you to move an object out of a folder.
Security		Allows you to assign other users privileges to that object as well as change any assigned privileges. You can also edit owner of objects.
Administer		Allows you ‘All’ privileges to all objects contained within a folder or folders.

As an object owner, you can assign privileges.

Notes about privileges

Your Objective administrator sets privileges for objects at the folder, document, group or user level using Objective Navigator.

If privileges are assigned at the folder / group level, then all objects contained within the folder / group are automatically given those privileges. That is, the objects contained within the folder / group inherit their privileges from the folder / group. These are termed effective privileges.

In Objective ECM, objects that inherit privileges from a parent are listed as Source - Inherited from on the Privileges section of the Details page.
If owner privileges are enabled in your organisation, you are automatically granted owner privileges for every object that you add to Objective ECM, i.e., you can assign privileges to objects.

In Objective ECM, objects that are manually assigned privileges are listed as Source - Current object on the Privileges section of the Details page.

If you are not the owner of an object, you are not able to assign privileges unless you have been set the Privs privilege by the Objective administrator or owner of the object in Objective Navigator. This is the same as the Change security privilege in Objective ECM.
As a user, you are only able to view privileges in Objective ECM.
You must have at least 'Open' privileges to open a published object.
You must have at least 'Edit' privileges to open a draft version of an object.
