Transferring custody of records
There are typically 2 reasons you may wish to transfer custody of a record:
- If you are a staff member and someone needs to borrow a record. As a staff member you can transfer custody of the record to a third party.
- To pass a record that is currently in your custody onto another user for a specified loan period.
The current location of a file or file part allows repository members (of certain roles) with access to that location for processing of requests and edits of a record.
Depending on your Objective
- you may not be able to transfer custody of a record to a group.
- the custodian may be the only one to have access to the object after a transfer custody action.
- the custodian may be the only one allowed to change privileges.
- Find or go to the record you wish to transfer custody of.
- Select for the object then Details page. to open its

.If you are transferring custody for a physical document that belongs to a file part, the option name will be Transfer file part custody.
- Select who will be assigned custody.
- Select the Borrow period from the options available in the drop-down list.
- If the transfer is for a file, select the Portion of the file that you need and provide a Reason for the request.

A physical transfer of the record will still need to be organised.
