Saving your documents from Windows Explorer

You can save documents on your local drive using Windows Explorer directly into Objective ECM.

At this stage, you can only save one or more documents and not:

folders
shortcuts
system files
files locked by another application.

Select the documents or emails that you wish to save to Objective ECM either from your desktop or Windows Explorer, right-click then choose Save to Objective ECM.
Browse to the required Objective ECM location where the document is to be saved.

You can select the Recent, Handy, Home, Global or Find tabs to help you locate the parent file or folder where you wish to save the document.
- On the Recent tab, select a location from the list of ones you have recently accessed, then Use selected.
- On the Handy tab, use the Navigation pane to browse your Handy, select a location, then Use selected.
- On the Home tab, use the Navigation pane to browse your Objective Home folder to find and select the location you want. Then choose Use selected.
  
  Object aliases won’t be displayed on the Home tab.
- On the Global tab, use the Navigation pane to browse your Objective Global folder to find and select the location you want. Then choose Use selected.
- On the Find tab, select the object type from the drop-down and enter your search criteria in the adjacent textbox. Select Find to display the search results. Choose a location from the results list, then Use selected.
Choose the appropriate action for the document.

The default action for the document is Add as new. You can choose No action if you decide not to add the document, which means that the save process stops here.
Select Next.
If you are uploading multiple documents and you wish to assign the same metadata to each, tick the Apply the same metadata to all selected documents checkbox.

Tip: If you wish to apply different metadata to each document, untick the Apply the same metadata to all selected documents checkbox. You will then need to follow the upload instructions for each individual document, then select Next to go to the next document and add its metadata.
Options are similar to the upload process to save the document to Objective ECM. There are few additional options:
- Save As: Select a format option under this list if you wish to save the document in a different format. Save As will display all the formats that are supported for the document. You can also save the document as PDF.
- Delete original from disk: If your document had originally been saved on your local drive, the Delete original from disk checkbox is available for you to tick. For new documents that have not previously been saved, this checkbox will not be displayed.
  
  If the Delete original from disk checkbox is ticked, then the original document will no longer be available on your local drive but will be registered in Objective ECM.
  
  If you do not have permission to delete the document, it will be uploaded to Objective ECM, and a message is displayed letting you know that the document on your local drive cannot be deleted.
Select Upload.
Select Close on successful completion.

The document is available from Objective ECM IQ or Objective Navigator.
