Inserting OLE properties in Microsoft Word

Note:   Microsoft Office integration must be enabled in your organisation to utilise this functionality.

To insert an Objective OLE field in a Microsoft Word document:

Note:   The steps provided below may vary slightly depending on your Microsoft Office version

  1. On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Quick Parts > Field.
  2. In the Field dialog box, for Field names, select DocProperty.
  3. In Field properties, select an Objective field property.
  4. Click OK.

The Objective field value is inserted into your document. It can be updated at any time, just like any other field by pressing F9 or selecting the field in your document and selecting Update Field from the right-click menu.

You can use this option in any document where you wish to display Objective OLE properties. It is often beneficial in document Headers and Footers to include fields as Objective-Id, Objective-Version and Objective-Title.

Objective Templates also benefit from the use of these fields. Some Objective fields can be added to templates to provide a uniform standard for all documents.

Note:   If using Objective Fields in a template, you will need to update the field's values when the document is created to reflect the new document. Some applications (for example, Microsoft Word) do not automatically update the field values displayed. This may require all fields to be selected and updated (for example, CTRL + A - Select All, and, F9 - Update Field, in Microsoft Word). You may need to perform the same function in the header and footer. Alternatively you could write a macro in your application to update the fields.
